On a student football level, the two
universities have been rivals as far back as 1956, and have continued to play
each other in University Sport South Africa competitions since 1994.
However, it is the first time since AmaTuks
has been promoted to the PSL that the two teams meet at the University. AmaTuks do not want this match to be simply
between the professional sides. Hence,
AmaTuks and TuksFootball have organised an Intervarsity to commemorate the
occasion with each institution’s development and amateur teams playing against
each other.
The day will start with Intervarsity matches
between TuksFootball and Wits Football teams.
This part of the programme will allow student and junior teams of both Universities’
football programme to be an integral part of what will probably become an
intense rivalry between the two universities.
The program for the day will take place at
University of Pretoria Sports Campus and will be as follows:

Dr Rendani Mulaudzi, AmaTuks CEO & Deputy
Director of TuksSport explains: “We are
planning to make the day a most memorable one for the students of the University
of Pretoria, Wits and the football loving supporter. We do hope that each time
Wits plays AmaTuks at home, we shall continue to offer a great intervarsity
experience to our students.”
