The Gauteng Monday League (GML), popularly
known as the ‘Reserve League’ will kick-off next week.
This was confirmed by the Premier Soccer League (PSL) General Manager of Football, Derek Blanckensee today.
“The Gauteng Monday League plays a significant
role in our football and we are excited to kick-off the season next week. One
of the fundamental roles of this league is to afford fringe players or players
coming from an injury lay-off an opportunity to get game-time. The reality of
football is, players can only get better by playing regularly,” Blanckensee
said.
The Gauteng Monday League will kick-off on
Monday, 10 December 2012 with a clash between Soweto rivals, Kaizer Chiefs and
Orlando Pirates – ironically 48 hours after the two sides would have contested
the Absa Premiership Soweto Derby at FNB Stadium. They will play their GML
fixture at Eldorado Stadium.
On the same day, Jomo Cosmos will play Moroka
Swallows at Robertsham Sports Grounds. Both fixtures will kick-off at 15h00.
At 16h00, SuperSport United will play
University of Pretoria at Groenkloof Campus.
(See fixtures attached).
