Banyana Banyana join South Korea, Ireland for Cyprus Cup

Written By Unknown on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 | Tuesday, December 04, 2012

Banyana Banyana will join South Korea, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland in Group C action at the Cyprus Women’s Cup in Ayia Napa from 4 to 14 March 2013.

The popular tournament has been increased to accommodate 12 teams instead of the usual eight nations, with England, Italy, New Zealand and Scotland to play in Group A matches in Larnaca.

Group B will be contested between Canada, Finland, the Netherlands and Switzerland, with the matches also scheduled for Larnaca.

As the Sasol-sponsored Banyana Banyana prepare to wrap up their 2012 campaign, with an international friendly against Botswana at the Maruleng stadium near Rustenburg on December 10, national head coach Joseph Mkhonza said: “We are looking to finish 2012 on a high note against Botswana, in a year that has been an exceptional one for women’s football with the national team having played at the London Olympics and having made the final of the CAF African Women Championship 2012 held in Equatorial Guinea.”

“Safa and Sasol need to be commended for their continued support shown to women’s football and I know the players are looking forward to a nice break over the Festive Season, to return fresh and ready to build towards a successful campaign at the Cyprus Women’s Cup in March next year.”
