The
past two days have served to prove what we all suspected… the Premier Soccer League
is cheating its customers with its low quality.
Firstly,
the Pretoria teams (Mamelodi Sundowns and SuperSport United) who are chasing the
title easily dropped points; it is inexcusable for a title chasing team to drop
all 3 points against the bottom team... and for Sundowns to continuously fading
in the second round of every season is really amateurish.
Then
you have the Buccaneers (Orlando Pirates), they were given a life-line by the
Tshwane teams, yet, instead of capitalizing on that, they dish out yet another disappointing
display, losing heavily against a relegation threatened team (Santos).
With
that said, it is really appalling that a team of Sundowns' quality isn’t
running away with the championship... pound for pound, and on that balance of
their deceptively good displays they should be miles ahead, yet they continue
shooting themselves in the foot, in that process giving hope to the crisis
stricken Soweto teams.
Imagine
if Kaizer Chiefs or Pirates were to win the league? That would reflect badly on
our football... but then again, if a stable team like Sundowns continues their
lethargic second round trend, then that possibility is staring at us... and
when SA league champs loses to weak teams from poor countries in CAF
competitions, we shouldn’t be surprised.
South
African football fans are cheated; we spent a lot of money, time and emotions
on garbage!
