It was only yesterday that I read the article on Diskioff about Mamelodi Sundowns and their PRO, or should I say their PRO problems.
I then listened to the sports center only to find out that they have kicked/fired Sammy. I was greatly impressed with how Mahlatse wanted to play with the people's minds to say Sammy was not fired but relieved off his duties.
Sundowns have been snubbing the media for sometime, and I tell you this was the worst of times for them to any public platform. After what I heard on Radio from their Communications Director, It does not rain but pours at Sundawana. The guy was so in the defensive He did not sound himself. I kept on thinking He has been given strict instructions to tore the line or He might get a golden handshake.
As for his comments about the development structures, my word, I really don’t think they expect anyone to listen to that junk, not even their supporters. So the least said about Sundowns development the better.
Now for the big dream of conquering Africa. What a dream. It’s a pity Mahlatse says everyone at the team is dreaming this with the President. I hope He was only saying this to continue being in the good books of the President, for I don’t think they should be dictated what to dream, for God sake the president is not there when they sleep. For any team to conquer the continent they need to have a culture of doing things; they need to build their own team. They need to have a clear vision that everyone at the team understand.
Sundowns are not in a position to win the championship here at home, let alone win any cup. They are a great team, the most expensive outfit in the country, as their fans like to call them. But unfortunately that’s all they are and nothing more, and with their soccer visionless President, that’s what they will be for a very long time. The best thing they can do its to stop dreaming and wake up and realise they are in South Africa, and they sure not in South America... so they will know they are not at all Brazilian.
