What is the use of Bafana Bafana playing Zambia if we are not going to test other players? I was impressed by the Zambian coach who played all his players and on top of that he introduced 20/21 years old players in his team. While the Bafana, Joel Santana, was busy boosting about five wins in a row not that winning five games in a row is a bad thing, but we can celebrate that without a big picture.
And what is that big picture? Look at players like Siphiwe Tshabalala and Teko Modise… they are guaranteed to play in Confederations Cup - was it necessary that these players be selected for the Zambia game? I doubt so. If Modise get injured who will replace him? Ok Steven Pienaar can, but he also prone to injuries these days.
What about Tshabalala you can replace him in case of injury? No one that we know according to Bafana statistics. Game against Zambia, we were supposed to look at Franklin Cale, the replacement of Modise. But we didn’t.
And I also think Santana should not call Matthew Booth, Aaron Mokoena and Nasief Morris together. He should call two of them and replace one with the future defender guys like Robyn Johannes (23) or Bongani Khumalo (21) this will help them gain experience and come 2010 they’ll be strong enough to compete with the best.
Instead of placing Morris or Booth at the bench, this won’t help us because these guys already have experience. This game should help Santana to look for replacements not to break any important record. He can call his strong squad when he is playing with strong team like Germany and others.
This is why SAFA let Carlos Alberto recommend him so that he will continue where he (Carlos) left. Excellent Walaza was selected to go to Africa Cup of Nations and I’m sure he learnt something there. Santana should do the same for future sake.
