South African Legends to take on Italy for the “One Man One Nation Celebrations”

South African Legends squad that will take on the Italian Legends in the inaugural Mandela Sports and Culture day on the 17 August 2013 at the FNB stadium was named this morning.

The match is to honour the ailing former statesman, Nelson Mandela and raise R150 million that will go towards building the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital.

The unprecedented all-day event will see South Africa’s national soccer and rugby teams play to their combined fan base.

The legend squad is to be coached by the Former Bafana Bafana coaches Stanley “Screamer “Tshabalala and Clive “The Dog” Barker who is currently the head coach of the newly promoted PSL outfits, Mpumalanga Black Aces.

Most of the players that played in the 1996 African Cup of Nations will feature in the “One Man One Nation Celebrations “ that will also include a match between Bafana Bafana against Burkina Faso, which will be followed by the Springboks v Argentina.

Some of the players that will future against the Italian Legends include, Phil Masinga, Doctor Khumalo, Mark Fish, Shaun Bartlett, Shane McGregor, Owen Da Gama, Linda Buthelezi, Jomo Sono, Nelson “Teenage” Dladla and Lucas “Rhoo Radebe who will captain the side on the day.

Minister of Sport and Recreation, Fekile Mabulala thanked Nelson Mandela for the role he has played in the unification of the rainbow nation through sports.

“Nobody in the world has got Nelson Mandela; you have him-celebrate him. What makes us South Africans different amongst other nations is Ubuntu, giving back. Nelson Mandela hospital is the biggest in the Southern continent.   This is going to be a celebration  not only for us but with others, like aunt Graca says-This is Madiba’s last wish, he can never ask anything from  us” added Mbalula

The “One man One Nation celebration trophies were also unveiled.

After the matches, there is a music concert lined up that will feature local and international artists, details of the artists will be finalised during the cause of next week.

Tickets are available at computicket, valued between R220 and R550 for the entire day, as well as the evening music concert.
