Many
are confused by the statement made by Orlando Pirates Communications Officer,
Mickey Modisane, on national radio about the retirement of Benni McCarthy.
Mickey
Modisane: ''As far as we know Benni is expected back at Pirates with the rest
of the team, we don't know about any retirement!''
Modisane
was correct in saying this as McCarthy's contract ends on the last day of June
and all players are expected back on the third week of June, this includes McCarthy
as he's still on contract with the team and all other players with contract
ending June accept those who have asked to be released from the club.
McCarthy
has retired as announced by his agent Rob Moore yesterday, but the club is yet
to receive anything formal from both parties. The club still awaits to offer
all players new deals when they return from break, this includes McCarthy too.
Regarding the Carling
Black Label Cup
Many
have shown interest in seeing McCarthy in action to bed farewell against our
rivals (Kaizer Chiefs) in the third edition of the Carling Black Label Cup in July. At the
stage of the cup the player will be without contract with the club and have
hanged his boots, but those cries are heard by the club and the organiser. McCarthy
is out of the country currently and on his return this issue might be looked
into and it will all be up to the player and the organisers.
