Durban’s
majestic Moses Mabhida Stadium will host the 2013 Nedbank Cup final on
Saturday, 25 May. This was confirmed by the Premier Soccer League (PSL) today.
The
Nedbank Cup final will kick-off at 15h00. The 2012/13 Nedbank Cup final will
feature Kaizer Chiefs and defending Nedbank Cup champions SuperSport United.
Kaizer
Chiefs booked their place following their 2-1 victory against National First
Division (NFD) outfit, United FC. SuperSport United defeated Platinum Stars 3-2
last night.
PSL
Acting CEO, Cambridge Mokanyane said: “When deliberating on the venue for the
final with our sponsors Nedbank and the clubs involved, a number of venues were
tabled and considered. However, Durban was a natural choice for us because of
the support we have received at the stadium. Durban fans have been good to us
in the past. We would like to thank the City of Durban and Moses Mabhida
Stadium management who have always been helpful to the League whenever we
request to use that venue.”
“Since
inception in 2008, the Nedbank Cup final has been a spectacular occasion and
signalled the final curtain call for the PSL season. The showpiece has thus far
been played in five different stadiums and Moses Mabhida stadium offers a
marvellous opportunity to take the Nedbank Cup and indeed the Nedbank brand to
yet another 2010 FIFA World Cup venue. We are confident that the fans will come
out in their droves to support this year’s finalists and make it yet another
memorable event.” said Andy Scott, Head of Group Sponsorships at Nedbank.
The
PSL also confirmed that tickets for the final will be on sale in the next few
days. Mokanyane implored fans to purchase tickets early. “We expect to see a
packed Moses Mabhida Stadium, so fans must buy tickets early. This promises to
be yet another thrilling final.”
