Basics Gordon Igesund basics

Written By Unknown on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 | Wednesday, January 09, 2013

In the Norwegian coach's words, "I took the under 21 boys for this game, some of these schoolboys will be playing for Norway in the near future."

Bafana Bafana team which is just a week away from the biggest tournament in the continent failed dismally against the schoolboys.

There is no direction nor structure nor whatever in this team. Yeye (Reneilwe Letsholonyane) and Nyawane (Siphiwe Tshabalala) think this is at the Zoo where they run the whole field to whatever position the ball is played and exposing other team mates. There is no positional discipline.

Not like I care, but let me help Gordon Igesund with simply football basics, mostly in this modern era.

1. Positional discipline is important. Your players should know their roles in the field and respect that. They should not run the whole field like headless chickens.

2. The ball should be knocked around on purpose. Streaking 8-10 passes backwards and sideways and end up losing possession is useless. Like what the Norwegian coach said, "Bafana plays a lot of balls backwards."

3. Transition Gordon Igesund transition. Consult the Nurse Khumalo books of transition. Teach your players which space to run in and where to place the ball when in transition. They are confused when they see many teammates on space; they just give the ball to anyone.

4. Gordon stops panicking whenever the opponents take the lead. I saw this mistake also against Zambia - when the opponent takes the lead, 20-25 minutes still to go you start taking out all defensive players and bringing in attacking players. Against disciplined teams this is very suicidal. You are going to lose some of your games by a big margin.

I was planning to be at cinemas watching movies during the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, but now I have realised I will be missing a lot at the stadium. There are a lot of movies that will be going on at the stadiums. Yesterday I witnessed a Ball Watching Movie. Ok do this, take Andile Jali and put him in that ball watching movie and tell me what would have happened, he would have bulldozed those boys off the ball with ease.

REMINDER
Gordon Igesund, during the Africa Cup of Nations you not going to meet any stationery schoolboys like the yesterday ones.

How Thuso Phala was voted the Man of Match baffles me. The Platinum Stars midfielder missed sitters; I mean the typical tap-ins.

FIT and FORM Gordon fit and form. Katlego Mphela showed that he is far from international fitness level.

People are still paying for that "opening goal."

Where was Lerato Chabangu?

To be fair this team won't score even a single goal in the tournament.
