Mooki is a true role model

Written By Unknown on Tuesday, October 21, 2008 | Tuesday, October 21, 2008

I want us to inculcate in our beloved Diskioff supporters, a culture of celebrating our players - our HEROES, the role models of our up-coming soccer stars. Being a role model takes a lot, more so for our soccer stars. They are in the public domain, and do not have time to let loose and just feed the little ones inside them. This is the first article on a player here, but it’s the first of many.

A friend of mine wrote me an e-mail and I quote, " I am quitting Kaizer Chiefs, This is ridiculous, If they treat Thabo like this, who am I?" This was after the team announced that they no longer in need of the services of Thabo Mooki. This was like the removal of the name Kaizer from Kaizer Chiefs.

Thabo is one loyal player I ever came to know. He did not see himself playing for any other team than the team He committed to for over a decade. I was humbled. Thabo decided to hang his boots and forget about soccer. There was pressure from all corners of the country and eventually Chiefs gave in. They came to their senses. They decided to honor him at their end of the season with the Chairman's award.

This was Kaizer eating humble pie. Then he further, against the will of the coach, recalled Mooki to the team. Mushin did not want Thabo; He does not want him now. But to the hearts of the Chiefs supporters, Thabo's name is engraved. Mooki is the true role model and if the young ones at Chiefs want to go far, they will go to him for advice.

If the coach wants to prolong his stay, let him play Mooki for the last 15 minutes of their next game, and you will see what I mean. Mooki has been there, done that and got the Jacket for it. He deserves our salute. If I was part of the management at Chiefs, I would raise a motion to retire the number 12 jersey after we bid a befitting farewell to, A true Khosi for life.

Let us celebrate our players, and for today, a toast to Tsiki Tsiki, from all of us at Diskioff.
