The Premier Soccer League (PSL) calendar needs to be
aligned with CAF calendar. Our PSL teams can’t survive congested fixture
coupled with travelling to Europe or Asia for connecting flight to other
African country for a game.
It is unfair for
South African team to play a PSL midweek game. Thereafter, travelling on
Thursday to Africa through Dubai or France to connect to African country which
means the team will arrive early in the Friday morning. Thereafter, drive to
the Hotel from the Airport to rest and only have afternoon training and morning
training before game.
The very same team will leave on Sunday to Dubai or France
to connect back to South Africa and arrives here on Monday. The team will only
have 1 day training before resuming PSL fixture on Wednesday without proper
recuperating and training. This is chaos to our teams which is resulting in
long term fatigue and form inconsistency.
Kaizer Chiefs is going to Ivory Coast soon to play ASEC Mimosas but
they might connect to Ivory Coast through France. The long travelling has
consequences on the players form.
Kaizer Chiefs will break up due to this African Voyage. Mamelodi
Sundowns will wrap up the league whilst Chiefs still has more games in hand.
Chiefs travelling to Africa will benefit Sundowns. Chiefs will be under intense
pressure during the catch up games whilst fatigue and inconsistency would
deliver the PSL championship trophy to Chloorkop in
a silver platter.
Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt and SuperSport United coach Cavin
Johnson have called for PSL calendar to be aligned with CAF calendar.
