Premier
Soccer League (PSL) Acting CEO, Cambridge Mokanyane has extended his best
wishes on behalf of the League to Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United ahead
of their continental fixtures this weekend.
The
two sides have been flying South Africa’s flag in both CAF Champions League and
CAF Confederations Cup respectively.
Former
African Champions, Orlando Pirates will host decorated DR Congo side, TP
Mazembe in the CAF Champions League before embarking on an away trip to
Lubumbashi on the return leg. SuperSport United on the other hand will travel
to Egypt to face less-known, ENPP in the CAF Confederations Cup.
Mokanyane
said: “We have been impressed with the campaign of both Orlando Pirates and
SuperSport United in continental club championships. Both teams have been great
ambassadors of South African football and the Premier Soccer League. It has
been a while since a South African side won the Champions League and the
Confederations Cup and, that is why we are backing both Orlando Pirates and
SuperSport to go all the way to claim top honours,” said he continued.
The
PSL Acting CEO encouraged South Africans to come out in numbers and rally behind
the two teams in their inter-continental campaign.
Both
SuperSport United and Orlando Pirates will not be in action in the Absa
Premiership this weekend. The PSL will
advise when the postponed fixtures will be rescheduled.
