Ajax
Cape Town handed in their old running shoes after their training at IKAMVA
(Ajax training ground) in support of the adidas ‘Refresh your Gear’ campaign.
adidas is offering a R400 discount on new running shoes for every pair of old
ones (of any brand) donated and will distribute the second-hand gear to
disadvantaged runners through SCORE, a non-profit organisation specializing in
community development in sport and recreation, and The Two Oceans Marathon
Initiative (TOMI).
During
the campaign, local adidas ambassadorssuch as Graeme Smith, Lucas Radebe, Bryan
Habana and Jean de Villiers will be refreshing their gear at selected stores
across South Africa in support of the charities involved.
The
handover of the shoes to the two organisations –SCORE and TOMI – is scheduled
totake place in the first week of December. Stefan Howells, Director of SCORE,
says they are delighted to receive shoes from running South Africans as these
will go a long way towards assisting aspiring athletes in disadvantaged
communities.
“We
have seen a lot of potential in the disadvantaged communities that we work with
–where the lack of sporting equipment is a real challenge. These running shoes
will be a welcome gift to the young sportsmen and women,” he said.
The
Refresh Your Gear campaign runs from 15 Octoberto 16 November 2012.adidas has
partnered with their running retailers throughout South Africa and feel this is
a great opportunity for the public to start their running journey with adidas.
Stores involved include; adidas performance concept stores, Totalsports,
Sportsmans Warehouse, The Cross Trainer, The Sweatshop and other leading
running specialists throughout South Africa.”
“This
campaign gives consumers an added incentive of donating old shoes to those in
need, plus the added benefit of a R400 discount. “There is now no excuse to
trial the adidas technical running range”, says Bradley Stern, the Senior Trade
Marketing Manager, adidas.
