Can Mathoho make it as a striker?

Written By Unknown on Monday, November 25, 2013 | Monday, November 25, 2013

I know strikers and midfielders who became defenders in the late part of their careers, but I can't remember any defender converted from defence to be a striker in the Premier Soccer League.

I remember:

Mac Batchelor – striker turned defender at Kaizer Chiefs, Moroka Swallows
Gary McNab – striker turned defender at Moroka Swallows
Paulus Masehe – striker cum defender at Free State Stars
Bongi Macala – striker cum defender at Santos
Patrick Mayo – striker cum defender at Kaizer Chiefs
Daniel "Sailor" Tshabalala – anchorman cum Central defender at Orlando Pirates
Neil Tovey – anchorman cum Libero at Kaizer Chiefs
Tebogo Langerman – left winger turn left back at Mamemlodi Sundowns
Bryce Moon – right winger cum right back at Wits University
Bradley Carnell – left winger cum left back at Wits University
Lucas Radebe – goalkeeper cum midfielder cum defender at Kaizer Chiefs

And many more…

Now there is a possibility that Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter will convert his defender Eric “Tower” Mathoho into striker supporting role. He has good height for aerial balls but I’m not sure about his composure and goal scoring techniques as he already score minimal goals in his career.

Do you think Baxter is doing a right thing for converting Mathoho as supporting striker or are we blowing that late substitute of Mathoho as supporting striker out of the proportion?
