The Absa Premiership season gets underway on 2 August,
but before the season kick starts, the
PSL staff will be out and about in Katlehong (East Rand), making an
impact in a myriad of ways. This is in
the name of celebrating Nelson Mandela’s 95th Birthday.
On Thursday 18 July 2013, the league along with friends
of the PSL will spend 67 minutes of Mandela day with a non-profit Organisation
called, Lotsha Support Organisation in the East Rand.
In addition to playing a football match with the kids of
the organisation, donating a football playing kit, soccer balls, the league’s
staff will donate old clothes and spend time with the family of Lotsha.
This is just a small sampling of what the league has been
doing over the last couple of years. Through the 67 minutes of Mandela, the
league’s staff and friends have donated their time and efforts to making a
difference in communities and this year that tradition will continue.
“There’s a responsibility that comes with being an
employee of the PSL. There’s a role to be played in the community and there’s
time to be spent with those who need guidance and support. Kids watch a PSL game on TV every day, kids
want to be the next Itumeleng Khune or Katlego Mashego’s of this world.
This becomes huge when they can meet and spend time with
their role models and other personalities who are involved in such an entertaining industry.” said PSL Life President, Dr Taunyane.
PSL CEO, Brand de Villiers echoed Dr Taunyane’s
sentiments.
“I love giving back, and in the spirit of Mandela,
spending time with those who are less fortunate is one of the most rewarding
things one can do. Most kids have
dreams, so if I can just help them by sharing the little things that I’ve
learned over the years, and keeping their dreams alive is just positive. And just a little bit of time can go a long
way”.
