The
Premier Soccer League (PSL) Acting CEO, Cambridge Mokanyane has congratulated
reigning Absa Premiership champions, Orlando Pirates following their tenacious
3-2 aggregate win against Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) side, TP Mazembe
in the CAF Champions League.
Mokanyane
also praised SuperSport United’s after they were unfortunately eliminated in
the CAF Confederations Cup following their 3-1 defeat by Egyptian outfit, ENPP
at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The
defeat spelt an end of the road for SuperSport United’s African dream for now.
Mokanyane
said: “On behalf of the League, I would like to extend our congratulations to
Orlando Pirates management, technical staff and players for a gutsy performance
against TP Mazembe. On Sunday afternoon I watched social media abuzz – for good
and bad reasons – but one thing that united all football fans was their support
for Orlando Pirates.”
The
PSL Acting CEO also spoke highly of SuperSport United.
“They
might have been eliminated on Saturday, but SuperSport’s gutsy efforts cannot
go unnoticed. We would have preferred to see them advance but I believe a lot
of lessons have been learnt by the team that will benefit them in their future
participation in the inter-continental club competitions.”
