Bafana’s Road to Brazil campaign goes to Cape Town

Written By Unknown on Thursday, February 21, 2013 | Thursday, February 21, 2013

Bafana Bafana’s “Road to Brazil” campaign resumes next month when Gordon Igesund’s side host the Central Africa Republic (CAR) in a crucial Brazil 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying match.

The tie is scheduled for Saturday, 23 March 2013 at the magnificent Cape Town Stadium. Kick off 20h15.

Bafana Bafana returns to the Mother City where they played an international friendly match against Norway earlier this year (Tuesday, 8 January) before one of the biggest crowds ever to witness Bafana in this splendid coastal city.

“As usual, the City of Cape Town is proud to host our boys as part of our unwavering commitment and support for Bafana Bafana. We want to take this opportunity to congratulate them for a job well done in the recently-ended Africa Cup of Nations tournament which we hosted,” said City of Cape Town Executive Director, Anton Groenewald.

“The determination Bafana showed in the just ended AFCON tournament confirmed that the future is bright for our football and that we are headed in the right direction. This important encounter against the CAR is part of our continued support for Bafana. We once again expect a huge crowd like we saw in January. Let’s also take this opportunity to wish head coach Gordon Igesund fast recovery and hope he arrives here in Cape Town in fine health to proudly lead the team to victory.”

This will be South Africa’s third match in the campaign following two draws against Ethiopia and Botswana last year.

“After our great showing in the AFCON 2013, we are confident Bafana Bafana will do well in the campaign to qualify for Brazil 2014. This by no way means we are disrespecting our opponents. We did not start our campaign well, but at the same time it must be noted that we haven’t lost a match, which is a positive sign,” said SAFA President Kirsten Nematandani.

“Now we need to continue from where we left off in the AFCON tournament and carry the momentum into the qualifiers. We return to Cape Town where we always enjoy great support, and we urge the people of the Mother City and surrounding areas to do it again and rally behind our boys.”
