When
we speak of a "quality players" many fancy theories from all walks of
life are thrown around. In simplicity a quality player is the one that can
consistently display an above average performance season in and season out and
in Kaizer Chiefs those types of players are in minority contrary to popular
belief.
Itumeleng
Khune, Reneilwe Letsholonyane and Siphiwe Tshabalala come to my mind when it
comes to real quality players at Kaizer Chiefs and the rest are either good
enough or NOT good enough at all!
Quality
players always rise to any big occasion, the bigger the match the more they get
fired up. Last season, Kaizer Chiefs played Orlando Pirates and in the first 20
minutes they were 3-0 down. On Sunday they played Mamelodi Sundowns and in the
1st 24 minutes they were not 3 but 4-0 down.
This
coincident further fuels my belief ukuthi it will be yet another frustrating
season for Amakhosi. We can't blame "lapse of concentration" as Khune
would like us to believe. The truth is, Chiefs players get cold feet when ever
a big meaningful game come knocking and like any "small time player"
they only gain their confidence should the Pirates or Sundowns quality players
fail to impose themselves early.
Kaizer
Chiefs general manager Bobby Motaung lied to the nation when he said:
"Amakhosi will kill teams this season" he should have looked at
things in "totality".
Until that good on paper defence starts taking that paper form to the field then that's when Chiefs can start believing otherwise for now, just like Bloemfontein Celtic the only reason we will pay attention to them is because of their huge and noisy support base.
