The arrival of Chippa United in the elite league has given
hope to most of Cape Town's talented youth. Black talent coming from the still
disadvantaged areas of Cape Town has been ignored for a very long time by the
Cape sides.
A number of local players turned out for Seven Stars, the
likes of Tax Mnani, Andile Sixaba, Nelson Dubazana just to name a few: this
acknowledgement of local talent gave many footballers from the patchy fields
hope that one day they would succeed in their quest.
The merger between Cape
Town Spurs and Seven Stars was the final nail in the coffin of many promising
footballers.
Chippa United is our team just like Seven Stars was our team
and as much as we go to the games; we also expect to see the clubs give back
through real development. The townships are filled with immensely talented
youngsters who all they desire is someone familiar with their plight to give
them a chance.
I'm proud of Chippa United and all I ask is for the township
boys to get the chances that coloured players have been afforded by Ajax Cape town
and Santos all these years. We will continue to come out in numbers to support
football like we've been doing all this time, supporting teams who gave a damn
about other people.
