adidas
today revealed the new Ajax Cape Town home and away jerseys for the 2012/2013
season.
“Ajax
will appear in their new kit for the first time during their friendly against
Manchester United at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday 21 July. We couldn’t have
asked for a better launching pad,” said Gavin Cowley, Marketing Director for
adidas South Africa.
The
new home kit incorporates a few changes from last season’s jersey as well as
some unusual features. As a result of a subtle printing technique, the Ajax
logo – previously featured on the front of the Ajax Amsterdam jersey between
1928 and 1990 – is now imprinted into the red of the shirt.
The
new home jersey also features a v-neck collar in red and white, with red trim
on the sleeves. The adidas logo is embossed on the jersey and the three adidas
stripes trim the shoulder and sleeves.
The
2012/13 season’s away jersey is blue, paired with electric-green shorts. The
adidas stripes on the shirt are green while the shorts sport blue stripes.
According
to Cowley, the launch of the 2012/2013 Ajax jersey is a special one because of
the way the jersey was revealed: “Instead of hosting a traditional press
conference, we set up a pop-up soccer pitch in the Phillipi community of Cape
Town, where a surprise visit from some of the Ajax squad – wearing the new home
jersey – lead to a game with local football fans, who were kitted out in the
2012/2013 away jersey. This was the first time the jerseys were revealed to the
public and local community delighted in the experience”.

George
Comitis, Ajax Cape Town CEO, said, “Since 2008 adidas have continued to supply
Ajax Cape Town with high quality sports apparel. Every year the adidas design
team, keeping in mind the traditions of the club, provides a shirt that is
synonymous with the Ajax brand but also in-step with the latest trends. The
challenge in keeping with the club colours and still providing us with
something unique is surpassed and appreciated by all our fans both locally and
internationally.
We
would like to thank adidas for their commitment to providing quality sports
apparel from training gear to match gear. We wear the adidas jersey with great
pride.”
