Bloemfontein
Celtic have released eleven players, including their long-serving servant Moses
Spandeel, who will not be part of the club for the 2012/13 season.
The
players are Thokozani Mshengu, Phenyo Mongala, Ezenwa Otorogu, Cecil Oerson,
Bevan Fransch, Luyanda Hlongwa, Prince Hlela, Siyabonga Mbatha, Moses Spandeel,
Ransford Osei and Papi Zothwane.
“It’s
sad but it is true. All the above players will not be with us next season. We
have already informed them that we won’t retain them for the next campaign. We
would like to thank them for their contribution they made in the team and wish
them luck in their future endeavours.” Khumbulani Konco, Celtic CEO, said.
Meanwhile,
coach Clinton Larsen has explained the clear-out.
“The
technical team and management sat down at the end of the current season to map
a way forward for next season. During our meeting it was decided we should
release the above-mentioned players for various reasons,” Larsen said.
“We
felt that some of them didn’t perform as expected and so we cannot keep them in
the club. We had other players on loan deals and their loan agreement has
expired. So they will be returning to their respective teams. As for other
players, their contracts have expired and we will not exercise an option to
renew them.” he explained.
