The standard of SA Football

Written By Unknown on Thursday, May 19, 2011 | Thursday, May 19, 2011

What do you make of the standard of football in the Premier Soccer League?? Has it improved or it's moving backward?

I think it has really improved if you could count the number of goals being scored every week and the quality, not just tap ins but real goals… Mzansi football is getting there… example; the Mamelodi Sundowns vs Ajax Cape Town 4-4 game… that’s for me the match of the season, and of course you judge the match by the number of goals scored, goals are created in the field of play, quality passing and skill leads to goals, number and the beauty of long rage strikes is the beauty of football.

Out of all the games played whole season we still rave the Ajax Cape Town vs. Kaizer Chiefs game ko Cape Town stadium was the best. Surely that should tell you about our standards... yes there fields have improved of course.

The standard has improved just a bit from d nineties. Your player’s tactical awareness, ability to play according to instructions, ability to play different systems and adapting to different set of play has improved but the level its not yet close to where it should be. The standard of our league financially is way high but the quality of our football is way low but improving.

I think it has really improved and it’s more exciting... There are no longer big teams and small teams now. Look at the league title race for instance; it’s come to the last game to deciding the league champs… the competition gets tougher every season.

The standard is still pathetic... players are missing more than they score at this level, most of the games are still not entertaining, the so called small teams are still only coming to live only if playing against the so called big teams... Ajax Cape Town beat Chiefs 1 nil today and go and lose 3 nil against Maritzburg United! Players are getting onto the referees book more than they should, for stupid but not football reasons! I think PSL is overrated, lots of people are fooled, and I am NOT......

Referees are donating cards 4 weak fouls... headless defenders make stupid fouls... Lucky Lekgwathi just kicks the ball up field... Richard Henyekane can’t trap... Mandla Masango can’t raise his head... Lehlohonolo Majoro a self-confessed cow... then 8 pathetic goals are scored through defensive errors and lapse of concentration, including a goal where a defender watched a player just stroll past him to score an easy goal, which, 2 prove that South African fans and media are as pathetic as the on-field play, that goal is nominated goal of the season, patheticians rave over that match...SIES!

I only saw 2 good teams this season, Ajax Cape Town and Kaizer Chiefs... luckily Mamelodi Sundowns are already out of the title, otherwise we would have celebrated a title from amateurism, should Orlando Pirates win the league; this will be perfect proof that our football is k@k!
