KAA Genk’s purchase of Valery Nahayo carved a niche for Bobby Motaung to loosen up the purse strings.
Amidst supporters’ outcry for Kaizer Chiefs to buy top quality players in the PSL,Bobby Motaung reacted in a best possible manner to acquire the services of Wits Captain,Tefo Mashamaite,to fill the void left by Valery Nahayo.
It is well documented that Amakhosi are keeping the purse strings tight when it comes to the transfer market, and this offseason won’t be an exception. If Tefo’s signing makes you think Chiefs will venture into the market to buy more ‘quality’ players,do not hold your breath.
Needless to say,the latter’s acquisition was necessitated by Nahayo exit to KAA Genk, furthermore the proceeds from his sale which is estimated to be just under R10 million was used to imburse Wits around R1.5 million for their hard working defender.I’am not by any means extenuating Mashamaite’s acquisition,in fact he is a better player than Nahayo,a future Bafana player. His signing was shrewd.Bobby’s meticulous spending just gnaws me.
However, being economical is not the worst thing in the world.Barcelona are practicing it.Most of their players are from their youth ranks, and they scarcely break the bank for big name players but they are the best in the world.
I’am not yet convinced that the Motaungs can compete in the transfer market for big name players,if anything else, they will continue to stuck to their doctrine of frugality.
