Tired of the SABC Uncle Toms

Manene namanenekazi (ladies and gentleman) of DISKOFF, before we get into today’s issue let me remind the Orlando Pirates fans of what I said earlier about abusive relationships, the abuser often comes back and promises to be better, here goes - “On behalf of the team, I would like to humbly apologise for the results we’ve been getting recently. We aim to make it up to you, starting with the game against Santos on Saturday so please come and rally behind us as we march on to our first victory of the season”. lehlohonolo Seema. Orlando Pirates FC website. Don’t say I did not warn you.

Getting back to current business, it was nice to see Bernard Parker scoring a brace yesterday, he is a real gem, No people, I am lying, I saw him do that this morning, on the eTV news. It’s not that I am unpatriotic; it is because the public broadcaster SABC felt that the national team is of lesser importance than Karabo Moroka and Paul Mashaba.

The game was only televised after the fact. In fact I think Parker was fast asleep by the time the game was on TV. Mr. Sepp Blatter was here only a few weeks ago, he agonized on how we are not doing enough to promote the World Cup and the Confederations Cup and yet as soon as he turns his back the SABC screens Generations and expects us to stay up to watch an old game.

I never sympathized with Dali when SABC lost the PSL right; I sympathized with the football fan because unfortunately the national team can only be broadcast by SABC. Does anyone remember the SIYANQOBA campaign by Dali and SABC two years ago? I happened to bump into them when they did their rounds in Kimberley, from that experience I could tell that it was insincere hogwash, they were more concerned with trips and having a good time rather than the national team WHERE IS THAT Siyanqoba spirit now?

It is immaterial that Bafana are a disappointing bunch more often than not but yesterday was an opportunity to revive some support for the team, a lost opportunity. One would swear we are still living in the 80’s, have you ever heard of Cricket being broadcast delayed live? Delayed live? What the heck is that anyway?
