Gone are the days

Written By Unknown on Friday, October 24, 2008 | Friday, October 24, 2008

Gone are the days when players stayed in townships among supporters, now they all stay in hidden townhouses hence they have idea how supporters feel when they dish out crap football. Gone are the days of glamour at Kaizer Chiefs, now it is a battle of out of contract bread crumbs.

Gone are the days of dodgy management at Pirates, ahh, no sorry, those days are still here. Gone are the days when the “Soweto Derby Saturday” (Chiefs vs Pirates) would divide homes, families, friends, communities and the nation, now it is a good day to go shopping.

Gone are the days when Kaizer understood the word quality, when the team boasted Ace Khuse and Doctor Khumalo in the midfield, now it is Mathebula and Letsholonyane, when they boasted Scara Thindwa and Shane McGregor now it is Thuso Phala and Mandla Masango and the list goes on.

Gone are the spectacular days of Abdul Bhamjee, now it is, eh, I don’t know , does the PSL have a PR person? Gone are the days of the flashiness of Zane “koloi ya bakgatla” Moosa, the powerful shots week in, week out of Bashin “Ayashisa amateki” Mahlangu and the clinical finishing of Fani Madida.

Gone are the days of Jeff Butler in his skimpy shorts, now it is Muhsin in his polo shirts.

Gone are the days of Live Bands, Lucky Dube, Brenda Fassie at our games, now it is JR miming “gata lenna” and only two speakers.
