It is so unfortunate or maybe a blessing in disguise that our Beloved Team, Bafana Bafana did not qualify for the next Afcon Championship taking place in Angola. All is still not lost though, cause of the situation we, and including Bafana Bafana find ourselves in. I think the time has come for the Bafana Bafana coach to be his "own man" without any interference and distractions whatsoever, including people with their own agendas within the technical team. For a country like S.A with all the potential and resources we have, is it be a forgone conclusion that we should qualify for any event we partake in, be it friendlies or any official FIFA sanctioned qualifiers. The time has come for us to stop talking about building towards 2010 unless we make use of players that will be the "right age" when the 2010 W/C comes to our shores.
However due to our "quick fix" policy in SA Soccer, will we always have a situation where it is a catastrophe when the National Team do not qualify for an event that is FIFA sanctioned. e.g AFCON & World Cup Qualifiers. It is about time that we make use of all the recourses available to our soccer players. Be it; sports Medici, sport science, psychologists etc. as the sporting code has evolved tremendously lately. Pure talent, guts, determination, skill and body seize is not enough in today's age and time. All Sport science institutions around the country should come on board and assist the technical team with regards to physic, best nutrition available (supplements etc), conditioning (Proff Tim Noakes) endurance, speed etc that is needed to compete and to be consistent at the highest level possible.
