Orlando
Pirates suffered their second defeat in a row after they went down 1-0 to SuperSport
United at Lucas Moripe Stadium.
After
the game, Pirates coach Vladimir Vermezovic (VV) congratulated SuperSport for
winning the game, but he was worried that his team’s defence did not do much to
avert United from scoring the goal. He was worried that the team was conceding
soft goals from either the left or right full back position but the overall performance
of the team was much better than previous game.
The
coach bemoaned missing of goalscoring opportunities as the biggest downfall of
the team.
“Our
biggest problem is scoring. We made everything to create chances but the final
touch is what we need. I changed strikers in the past 4 games but poor
finishing is the biggest problem in the team. There is no time for proper
training because after every game is a recovery phase and thereafter it is
another fixture. We got opportunities but our players didn’t shoot and how are
we going to win games without scoring goals.”
The
coach attributed overall poor form to fatigue and lack of recovery time.
“Players
are tired and some are not psychological ready to carry on this season. Some
players already played more than 50 games this season. The CAF schedule is
strange as we played whilst other teams were in holiday and others in preseason
training.”
The
coach is now targeting the Nedbank Cup to salvage the pride of the team.
“Losing
two consecutively games is not a good situation. We need to do well in the
league but the Nedbank Cup is our last chance to win silverware this season. We
have adequate 7 days to prepare against Mamelodi Sundowns for the Nedbank
Cup. It would be nice to win Nedbank
Cup. We need to fight hard. The boys must keep on working hard and results will
come.
The
coach also revealed the whereabouts of Collins Mbesuma.
“Collins
Mbesuma is the one of the most experienced player in the team. He is part of
the team but his body is retiring and not mental ready to play.”
