At
Orlando Pirates it is said we lack finishers, but is just that? Because we all
know Oupa Manyisa, Kermit Erasmus, Thabo Matlaba, Happy Jele, Tlou Segolela, Sifiso
Myeni even the new Helder Pelembe has shown he can hit the net.
The
problem I see at Pirates is we lack an idea of how to attack. The idea of how
to attack can help and does help a lot of teams cause they can know how to
move, where to place themselves and therefore be able to practice shots in
those angles.
Take
Chelsea for example (those who watch European football). Jose Mourinho has a
formation when he attacks, it's usually a diamond and even when the diamond is
not perfectly a diamond but what they do make sure of, every time it's for
players are in attack. 1 is the ball carrier and in front, left and right of
him there's a man in position to receive the ball and fire.
Formation
is not only 4-4-2 or 11 starting men, you need a playing formation for each
part of the field and play, namely defence, holding position and attack. I
think we have a position holding formation which helps defence a lot but until
Pirates comes up with its own attacking formation, we'll forever lay blame on
players and sign a thousand more strikers.
