Castle
Lager, renowned sponsors of football in Africa, has unveiled two SuperFans who
will represent Zambia and watch the final of the Africa Cup of Nations in South
Africa.
Despite
the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations champions having been recently knocked out of
the 2013 edition in South Africa, football fanatics Ben Banda and Robert Mwanza
still have plenty to cheer about as they will travel down south to be part of
the football festivities of final on the 10th February.
Both
men, who are huge admirers of the Zambia national goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene,
emerged as the two SuperFans victors from the Zambia in the Castle SuperFans
competition.
In
2012, Ben, a bus call boy, and Robert, an electrician, participated in a social
media competition undertook by Castle to identify eight passionate and
enthusiastic SuperFans from four African countries – Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Zambia
and Swaziland - for an exclusive all-paid trip to watch the final of the
continental showpiece live at the National Stadium in Johannesburg, South
Africa.
After
the first round of the competition was completed in Zambia, thousands of the
SuperFans were narrowed down to a short list whereby fellow compatriots voted
for their best SuperFans on social media and activation platforms. SuperFans
showcased dedication and commitment to their teams and dressed in their best
football fan regalia until Ben and Robert were identified as the winners.
“As
we build up towards the final stages of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, we want
to get fans from other parts of the continent outside of South Africa to rally behind
the tournament and their respective countries should they still be in the
competition, we are pleased to have Ben and Robert as the winners of the
SuperFans campaign in Zambia and we are rewarding them for their passion of the
beautiful game with a trip and a ticket to the Africa Cup of Nations final,”
said Michael Saunders, the Castle Lager brand Manager.
“Fans
continue being a big part of such football occasions with their support of the
beautiful game in the African continent and what better way to reward them with
this once-in-a lifetime opportunity,” added Michael.
For
their trip to South Africa, the two Zambians will spend two nights at Southern
Sun Monte Casino in Johannesburg, go on a tour of parts of Soweto and attend
the final of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations as a VIP guest of Castle
Lager.
