Bloemfontein
Celtic have acquired the services of former Santos goalkeeper Thembalethu
Moses, who signed a short-term contract with Siwelele that will expire at the
end of the season.
The
27-year-old minder comes in as a replacement for the injured Thabani Stemmer.
Stemmer has been ruled out of action for the rest of the season after he
ruptured his Achilles tendon during warm-up of the Macufe Cup against Kaizer
Chiefs recently.
“We
are proud to have signed such a talented goalkeeper. We believe he will add
value to the club,” Technical Director, Mich D’Avray, says.
“We
had a few goalkeepers down for the coaches to have a look at and they have
chosen to go for Moses. We signed him as a cover, but as a club, we want him to
fight for a place in the team. We want him to keep the other goalkeepers on
their toes. We’ve made it very clear to him that he is not just coming here to
relax. He must push as hard as he can for a place in the team. He is definitely
not here to make up the numbers,” he adds.
D’Avray
does not rule out the possibility of offering Moses a new deal upon the expiry
of his current contract.
“Anything
is possible. But it will depend on how he does between now and the end of the
season. It will also depends on how the coaches see him, especially the
goalkeepers coach Andre Bronkhorst; where he sees him in the perking order as
far as the goalkeeping department is concerned.” he explains.
