Three suspects arrested following crowd violence

Written By Unknown on Monday, October 8, 2012 | Monday, October 08, 2012

Three suspects that have been linked with crowd violence at the VW Dobsonville Stadium a week ago have been arrested by the Police.

The third suspect was arrested in Dobsonville mid-day today. The three will appear at the Protea Magistrate Court in Soweto according to the Dobsonville Police spokesperson, Kay Makhubele.

The arrests follow a move by the Premier Soccer League supported by Stadium Management and Mamelodi Sundowns to lay criminal charges against some individuals who were involved in the crowd violence at the Moroka Swallows vs. Mamelodi Sundowns fixture.

“I can confirm that three suspects have been arrested in connection to what happened at the Dobsonville Stadium. We expect more arrests to be made soon. Currently, we are studying video images and photographs to indentify more suspects,” Makhubele said.

PSL General Manager of Safety and Security, Phillip Masimong said the PSL was pleased with the arrests.

“When we said we will bring those responsible to book last week, some people thought we were just making threats. We are serious about this. We want to make sure that our stadiums are safe so that people can come and bring their families to watch football,” Masimong said.
