The
Premier Soccer League (PSL) and Mamelodi Sundowns held a meeting this afternoon
to discuss the recent scenes of crowd violence at some of Sundowns games.
The
PSL has expressed concern about the behaviour of football fans at fixtures in
the last couple of weeks. Subsequently, the PSL appointed an internal Security
Task Team to look into the matter and come up with means to deal with crowd
violence.
During
today’s meeting between the PSL and Mamelodi Sundowns, both parties agreed that
there is a need to act swiftly in order to curb the behaviour of a faction of
their supporters.
Sundowns
have requested assistance from the PSL to bring the culprits to book. The club
revealed that they intend pursuing criminal charges.
PSL
Acting CEO, Professor Ronnie Schloss said: “The recent scenes at our stadiums
have been of great concern to us. We have put together an internal team that
will investigate the disturbing scenes.”
Mamelodi
Sundowns Senior Legal Manager, Yogesh Singh said: “We need to take steps to
avoid a repeat of what happened this past weekend. It’s not in the interest of
Sundowns, the PSL, nor football at large.”
