One Trip – the story of jubilation for one Sthembile Ubisi from Tembisa, Gauteng resident pockets R1
million and an overseas tour to see 8 top football derbies in the world.
Sthembile
Ubisi was crowned the 2012 MTN8 Last Fan Standing (LFS) on Saturday night after
outwitting his seven counterparts in a football trivia quiz that decided who
walked away with R1 million in cash and a trip to Spain to watch the El Clasico
during the 2012/13 season – all part of the MTN8 Last Fan Standing competition.

Ubisi on becoming this season’s Last Fan Standing and looks forward to hosting
him on what should be an unforgettable trip to Spain for the El Clasico derby.”
MTN8
has gained popularity with the Last Fan Standing (LFS) competition, a franchise
within the tournament that has become a feature landscape for South African
football fans during the tournament.
The
Last Fan Standing, in its inception in 2010, saw Thulani Ngcobo win the
ultimate prize to watch all 38 FIFA World Cup matches in South Africa and set a
new Guinness World Record in the process, for the most World Cup matches
attended by a football fan.
The
2010 LFS winner, Malose Kutumela, then won an eight-day all expenses paid trip
to watch Manchester United in Europe. Kutumela also had the backstage privilege
of watching the Red Devils train and had the opportunity to mingle with the
players one-on-one. Last year, Tumoetsile Mogomotsi, won a once-in-lifetime
trip to watch 8 football derbies around the world.

The
journey to the Ubisi triumph began when he opted-in to enter the MTN Last Fan
Standing competition by dialling *186*8# and then recharging with a R10 MTN
voucher. Ubisi was part August was part of the eight finalists that were
randomly drawn each week from 8th August until 16 September. The finalists then
participated in a football trivia quiz on the eve of the 2012 MTN8 Final to
determine the winner.
“In
line with the theme of MTN8 Wafa Wafa, it is all about winner-takes-all,” notes
Serame. “However, the seven finalists who did not become the next Last Fan
Standing each received R80 000 as part of being one of the finalists.”
Taukobong
