Premier Soccer League – Final Round

Written By Unknown on Monday, May 21, 2012 | Monday, May 21, 2012

Morning champs and contenders, before I start typing away to glory… if you have a twitter handle and you still find it hard to follow your source of game changing stats, change your mind now and follow @Footballbrains1 (We will have more about the other teams, as I will be profiling a little about the Kings of the Premier Soccer League - Orlando Pirates Football Club)

I have been hearing that this season was an improvement, I beg to differ… this season was not the most spectacle, it did not deliver what it normally does, but then I concede that it is how it is… good beginning and an exciting end, but the middle bits were dreary for me.

One of the most inconsistent seasons yet. (I think it had a lot to do with the long breaks, the increase in TV crowd, the decrease in stadia attendance, the failure to deliver on the marketing front, more to do with money than the actual on the field action, “Big” getting bigger and “poor” getting poorer.

Does it not bother anyone that to 5 teams are all from Gauteng? Then we expect support from all other provinces?? Anyways, before I dampen the spirits let me first congratulate the Kings of Premier Soccer League by retaining their crown, BIG UP Orlando Pirates!! Special mention to Moroka Swallows, Huller back SWAI-MAN!!!

On the @Footballbrains1 we will go deeper on how the 14 teams faired compared to last season (the other 2 being Jomo Cosmos and Black Leopards who were not part of the Premier Soccer League last season)… on this mail I dissect the Pirates numbers:

Just like last season,
·                They won 57% of their games
·                Have not seen a loss in 80% of their games (opposed to last season when they did not lose in 87% of their games)
·                Lost more this season than last season, 20% this season and 13% last season
·                Scored 1 less goal than last season, and conceded 3 more than last season
·                The offense record is joint 5th and their defense is also standing at the 5th best defense (40 goals scored and 26 conceded)
·                The only team to have a better “Non lose” record is Swallows but what spoiled Swallows is the amount of draws they had compared to Pirates

Salute the Champs!! On another note, hoping for a quick rehab for Jimmy Tau, he experienced one of those injuries that can only make a viewer cringe. Will upload more of the comparisons on Twitter, so like I said… follow. The story of the 16th edition is firmly in the books.  Waiting for the 17th edition, welcome Tuks to the PSL party… and good luck to the teams doing battle in the disgusting playoffs.
