Tshabalala’s swipe at the European shrine has passed

Written By Unknown on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 | Tuesday, January 31, 2012

REWIND to the 2010 football jamboree. 11th of June, the dreadlocked Soweto born player smashes a thunderbolt after a marauding run in the left flank that had acres of space and the Jabulani ball found its way into the top left hand corner of the Mexico keeper to open the account for South Africa and indeed the first goal of the tournament.

Lo and behold there should have been a queue at the mount Naturena shortly after the celebration whim. Not only because of the goal, but Simphiwe “Shabba” Tshabalala had a decent spell at the 2010 Fifa World Cup.

The latter is the biggest stage possible, if you are not convinced about the player’s performances at the foregoing tournament then you will never be convinced. Simple. Especially after a good exhibition, personally. Many acquisitions that were spotted at any particular FIFA sanctioned tournaments are well weighted and sealed thereof. No trials whatsoever.

Simphiwe Tshabalala is fast approaching 28 (September) and there is no satisfying demand of attacking midfielders who are of that age outside of Europe. Unless you are out of the top draw. And Shabba is not. They prefer young players who will provide a lot bravura to their ranks.

How desperate can Shabba get for a move in Europe?

His value has depreciated thanks to the inexplicable and yet deplorable trials he has undergone. But that is neither here nor there because he has reached the twilight of his contract at Kaizer Chiefs. One thing is for sure, Shabba and his agent (Jazzman Mahlakgane) want to cash in big time. They know all too well that this will probably be the last big pay for the player in terms of contract ties. So they exhausted every links possible. But please, stop acting so desperate.

In any case, I expect Jazzman Mahlakane, like in Teko Modise’s case, to negotiate the best package for the player at Amakhosi. This European adventure desire should be given no breathing space anymore, so that the player can concentrate on his career and represent Kaizer Chiefs with pride.

Shabba, your time at the European scene has passed. Let it go.
