Footballer of the season or Popular footballer of the season?

Written By Unknown on Saturday, April 16, 2011 | Saturday, April 16, 2011

Our two top Football publications have really messed up the concept of a footballer of the year. The manner in which these two publications go about in selecting their best player of the season leaves it open to a whole lot of manipulation and false results.

It goes without saying that, if you give "supporters" ALL the power to choose the best player, more than likely, their decision will be heavily influenced by their club loyalties. Yes, we do need to involve fans, but cant we come up with mechanisms to regulate and ensure that the process is fair?

In one of the publications, I managed to vote about 10 times for a single player in a space of about 15 seconds? Bar 1 player, Chiefs, Pirates & Sundowns players occupy the top spots, whereas players from least supported teams like Maritzburg, Vasco, Platinum Stars etc occupy the bottom half? Is this fair? Is this a true reflection of the brand and quality of football we witnessed this season?

Are these powerful publications telling us its "okay" to have a player of the season by virtue of what team he plays for rather than his exploits on the pitch?

This is simple, KICK OFF & SOCCER LADUMA must decide if they are going to have a Footballer of the season or the Most Popular player of the season...they must stop fooling us or themselves.... finish & Klaar!

people are amazing, they want to stick their noses in everything. key is this is recreation, meaning that people take time off lifes formalities and preasure to have fun. So if we start hauling this everyday junk into sports it will take too much. Its more like the wheel has been invented but clowns like fish want to invent another wheel. Let those who run bussiness make bussiness decision. Our is to buy tickets, go the game, enjoy the game, make sure we do not litter and then go home. That is an ideal fan. Let us not forget that nobody is forced into the stadiums at gun point. If you do not like how things are done stay home or join another sporting code where things will be done your way. I see it the way K & K see it period and you must bly stil.
