Watching Chelsea go down to United that easy last night made one think a lot. Man United put a very brave and brilliant performance at Stamford Bridge last night and that was equally matched by Chelsea who failed to score on a number of occassions.
Wayne Rooney had a brilliant game and a nice goal to cap his performance. I guess he is back to his old self and the manner in which he celebrated his goal was acceptable this time around.
The power of Didier Drogba and his presence was being felt a lot by the likes of Rio Ferdinand and he was not an easy package to deal with. Amazingly the Drogba was winning balls and putting in crosses and passes which is not really his style of play, but then his constant need to prove to Ancelotti that he is really worth every minute he puts him on that field made him play his heart out.
Surprisingly he was being replaced by Nicholas Anelka. Fernando Torres had missed a couple of scoring opportunities already and it was evident as to who really deserved to be substituted. Carlo Ancelotti is very much obsessed about Torres and he is costing the team and Torres himself. Don't get me wrong, Torres have magic feet and he is still a good player, but then his goal scoring form has hit the bottom low. Does Torres need time out just to reflect and get himself back, or is Torres' probelem simply Psychological?
Torres' move to Stamford Bridge was not in error, but then if Ancelotti keeps his obsessions going it might end up coming down to Torres being labelled a flop!
Bottom line Man United played a great game that they managed to get a very important away goal which could as well be the decider of the next encounter at Old Trafford. Chelsea has enough experience to turn the tables around, but then why not give Elnino time out? Maybe he needs it, maybe he needs to rest his head a bit to just get a glimpse of who the real Torres is capable of doing.
Edwin Van Der Sarr had a stunning game in the posts. He organised his defence so well that they gave Chelsea no room. He was stretched and he produced an Itumeleng Khune Kind of save from Torres' header. At his age that's a great sign of wanting to win badly.
Ryan Giggs has quality and class and that never fades with time. His experince has been crucial for United lately and he sure plays like a 28 year old. He is a true legend and I guess Ferguson just knows how to get the best out of his players. Everyone that United play most boring football, but then they get to win all the time.
Going to Old Trafford wont be easy, but then does Chelsea have it in them to finish of United in their own backyard? Time will soon tell.
