Written By Unknown on Friday, July 24, 2009 | Friday, July 24, 2009

Manchester City players met Nelson Mandela on Thursday, wishing him a happy 91st birthday at his office in Houghton and gave him a club shirt. Manchester City are currently in South Africa for a pre-season tour to play local teams Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.

On Thursday they took time out from training to meet South Africa's former president Nelson Mandela at the Mandela Foundation office in Houghton. It was obviously a great pleasure for all the players who presented the former president with a club shirt in commemoration of his 91st birthday last Saturday.

Mandela then chatted with the players and admitted that despite being regarded as one of the greatest political figures of his time he could also put his foot in it!

The players were then individually introduced to Mandela, who was was surprised by the youthful looks of Robinho. City will continue their tour in South Africa.
