It was the launch of Telkom Charity Cup today, the Premier Soccer League’s traditional season-opener, which it has sponsored since 2000. The contract extension is for the next three seasons (2009-2011).The Telkom Charity Cup will take place on 1 August 2009 at Coca Cola Park (Ellis Park) in Johannesburg. All matches will be televised and broadcast over all SABC radio stations.
This year, Telkom celebrates the tenth anniversary of its association with the PSL and the Telkom Charity Cup. Over the past decade, Telkom has proven to be a reliable and loyal football patron by serving as the official sponsor of two PSL competitions (the Company also sponsors the lucrative Telkom Knockout).
An announcement was made that this is a unique tournament in Africa that has enabled soccer fans to contribute in building their communities.
In fact, some African countries have enquired about how this tournament is organised because they would like to host something similar in their countries. Since 2000, more than 500 charities have benefited from funds raised in the tournament. Over the charity event’s 24 year history, dating back to 1986 under previous sponsor, Iwisa, it has distributed over R36 million to needy causes.
Dr Leepile Taunyane, who is the driver of this initiative and the life-time president of the PSL, has commended the supporters for their contribution over the years. He also encouraged them to do the same this season.
Corporations have been challenged to buy suites at Coca- Cola Park to generate more revenue for this tournament.As teams jockey to participate in the illustrious Telkom Charity Cup, Swallows fans will try to keep pace and vote to position our beloved team amongst the participants of the tournament. We urge AmaSwaiswai, The Beautiful Birds, to go in numbers and vote for their team.
The format for the charity event remains unchanged. Supporters of the 16 PSL teams that are eligible for participation can vote as many times as they please to ensure that their favourite club is among the Top Four teams when the vote lines close at midnight on Sunday, 26 July 2009.
By using a Telkom public phone or a Telkom landline, voters stand a chance of winning daily cash prizes and Telkom Charity Cup memorabilia. The more times a caller votes and enters the competition, the greater the chance of being one of the two daily prize-winners of R500 or the winner of the grand prize of R10 000A portion of the cost of each call goes towards the proceeds earmarked for distribution to the charitable organisations, most of which are selected by the 16 participating PSL teams.
Cellular phone subscribers could also vote for their teams by sending SMS (text) messages, accompanied by their team’s name, to 34620.
Moroka Swallows' management will support any legitimate initiatives by Amaswaiswai in order to be a participating team on the day.

Lipile Taunyani is really chewing the cad secretly. This golden fox has been carmofladging in PSL for a while now. Has he forgeten to exit from the high way? This cannot be true, Madiba has long called it quits. Yet this golden fox called Taunyane wants to continue sucking this stalk sweet till six feet down. President Oliphant is calling it quits. Why cant guys like Ted and Taunyane find something else to kill time. This is not growth at all the Iron Duke was talking about. It's high time for Bobby and Itumelang get into these positions. I would not be amazed if Dan Leboa is still hiding at FNB.Danny Jordan may be contemplating early retirement before Taunyane.No wonder chiefs keep loosing, this golden fox is the spell.
Hayi golden fox, you better get out of your hiding cage. Even bugs get tired of sucking blood. This is that same golden fox who was president of anti ANC teachers union. We have not forgotten that. Mugabe will soon give away his sit, but why Taunyane act like this is like a monarchy.

Barnard Parker is good player but he is not ready yet. This also goes for Teko Modise. I love these boys but I have seen too much greed in their eyes this past Confederations Cup. You know why they missed goals and sitters. I am glad you asked they wanted to impress so bad that they often forgot they were in a team once they faced the goal post. No doubt they were versertaile and stemped their authority. Parker needs a season or two with Jomo Cosmos. We know all this hurry hurry overseas has been too bad lately. Instead of boys catching a return flight overseas it will behoove them to via Cosmos Camp, besides Jomo once he sends a player overseas it's a one way ticket. Here I am talking at national level, this is not a strategy to empower Cosmos, Jomo has long been crowned King of Soccer. This will help us breed the type of players we need in our national team.
We must also pay tribute to our one and only legends Jomo and Kaizer, give them roses while they can smell them. Would it be great to have Bamuza and Kaizer jr in the next world cup. I am sure if we do that these leggends can mirror themselves doing what they did years ago at Orlando Stadium. I am very sure Pitso Mosimane is hearing me well and will pass that infor to the head coach. It is gratifying as a parent to see Boby, Jesica and even Cecil leaving the real Kaizer dream. Many families can look up to this family and get their acts right. Jomo has not only his son Bamuza but Julius, Joshua, Desmond, Keystone and Gladstone are out there doing wonderful things. Mandela has already picked his grandson and what a joyous moment for both of them and When Dr. Khoza will be deputised by Itumeleng Khoza that will be even more electrifying. The good book says "train up your child in a good way ...so that when you are gone they may continue on the good road" When you tell people thank you it not only makes them feel good it massages the soul of the ones who say thank you. When we do this our youth will learn to respect the wishes of their own parents and guardians. These our heros been there pre and post and post apartheid, how many people have stayed in the same profession like these true sons of Africa.
I trust, the Minister of Sports will look into having a national holiday to honour these three brothers. Remember when NPSL cookie crumble? Who came and saved us and lead us to greener pastures? I am sure you remember it was a mess having two teams with same name, one on this league and another on this other league.
