Are we better than our players?

Written By Unknown on Friday, January 30, 2009 | Friday, January 30, 2009

I read with interest the article, “If you know or understand soccer u won’t say those kind of comments”. Thanks Mr. Ledwaba, and please keep on bringing sanity to our articles.

I would further encourage other Diskioff readers to do the same. This should not however be interpreted as me agreeing to whatever you saying on your article, unless you give me a list of all the people who know football, which I doubt you can. Well there is a lot of people who claim to “Know or understand” football, but hey, do they?

Well I’m in Pietermaritzburg and enjoyed a great game yesterday, between the local team here and the relegation threatened, well supported Siwelele.

The rain has not stopped pouring, and I think it really contributed to the game, but again the two teams were playing on the same field, so congratulations to the home team.

But again being here made me thinking. I remember all the noise about Mbulelo Mabizela crushing a car here. And hey, he was portrayed to be reckless, ill-disciplined and all that. Well there are a lot of trees here. There is this mist I have never seen anywhere most of the time. I tell you even the Pope can hit a tree in Pietermaritzburg.

Did I say Mabizela is not Ill- disciplined? Ok, I am glad I did not. The only thing I do not know is Mabizela’s side of the story, on all this things that most people use to judge him. Players, like all of us are people. This is what I mean.

We arrived here on Monday. Had supper, then we had a bottle of Jameson, then it was finished, then it was Remi Martin coniac. Then we drove from where we were to where we booked in. We slept and life went on. This is what Mabizela might do when he is home, like most of us do when we home. Our players, like most English, Spanish and Italian players, do drink. This is not the basis for ill discipline.

Its just bojalwa gabo re tshware ka go tshwana, that’s why on Tuesday I was early at work and very productive. So people, not all our players are born again, and they are not saints, just like most of us.
