People in South Africa have been complaining about SA standard of soccer saying it’s down. Others said we don't produce best players that will represent SA in Europe's best leagues.
I wonder which league they are talking about cause PSL have produced, Benni, Mwariwari, Katongo, Pinaar and others. These players are making waves in Bundasliga and Barclays Premier League.
Back to the heading, which league is strong in Africa? Definitely I will say SA and Egyptian league. Why? In Africa there are only two teams that will be happy to be presented by African league based players which is Egypt and South Africa.
Egypt play their games with majority players coming from Egyptian league. Same with South Africa, since SA was re-admitted by FIFA, the majority of players that are representing SA are from the PSL.
But with other African countries you see only less than 5 African league based players. All football power houses in Africa; Cote 'd Ivoire , Cameroon, Nigeria, Senegal, excluding Egypt who obviously are Afcon champions.
Others may say Sudan and other few small African countries also were represented by African league based players; the problem is that they haven't achieved anything. SA won, were runners-up, 3rd Afcon (1996, 1998, 2000) and also qualified for World Cup finals (1998 and 2002) this were achieved with most of players coming from NSL or PSL.
What is the point of this article? To recognize the great job that is been done by South African and Egyptian Leagues.
