Defensive about Defensive midfielders

So what is this brouhaha about Santana playing Dikgacoi and Sibaya? When Dikgacoi blasted away Equatorial Guinea no one noticed that he was a defensive midfielder. Journalists fancy themselves as technically astute about the beautiful game but how much football do they really understand, I can t imagine BBK kicking a ball. The self same journos will blast Santana whilst reminding everyone about the class of 96 which incidentally played Linda Buthelezi and Eric Tinkler in their starting line up, many of them were still doing matric then so I don't blame them. When Sundowns play Acuna and Nyandoro they become a very difficult team to beat because they win a lot of possession. Mordern football is not about "shibobos" and "show me your number" hence Lekoelea and Khanye are non entities today; it's about mental skill as it is about physical skill. A five year old knows that a match is won in the middle of the park; you need strong player who will impose themselves mentally and physically on the opposition making it easier for four main attackers to do their bit. The basic requirement to be in the starting line up of any team is to be able to play football, presumably everyone knows that this includes passing, unfortunately my brother from Rubin Kazan would struggle to pass grade 1 let alone execute a defence splitting pass, the argument therefore should be is Sibaya good enough? Not about two defensive midfielders. My answer is Sundowns has Nyandoro, Acuna, Chiefs has Nengomasha, and Ajax has Eyong, Poggenpoel though a good player seems to have a weakness for cheeseburgers judging from his tight fitting pants, so what do we expect Santana to do when the best in the league is not ours? Don't expect Santana to send you an mms with a 5110, he is not a magician. With that point I congratulate Gavin Hunt for unearthing Madubanya.

I couldn't agree more with you regarding our so called 'expert' clueless journos...

Back to the question about Sibaya being good enough, my take would be to give him at least another chance before Santana can drop him.

We do lose a lot of possession because of his poer first touch but, the poor guy does make up for it when going forward which is unfortunaltely less than going backwards...
