It
never rains but pours for Bafana Bafana.
Following
the major changes that head coach Gordon Igesund made from the initial squad
announced a week ago, Igesund has had to make more changes on Friday, 5 July
2013.
Four
players have withdrawn from the travelling party – three of them were
replacements.
Musa
Bilankulu of Bidvest Wits has now been replaced by Platinum Stars captain Vuyo
Mere; Lance Davids from Ajax Cape Town makes way and his place has been taken
by Edward Manqele of Mamelodi Sundowns; Kaizer Chiefs’ Mandla Masango comes in
for Luyolo Nomandela of Free State Stars; while Mzikayise Mashaba of Bidvest
Wits has been called up to replace William Twala of Orlando Pirates (formerly
Chippa United).
“We
need to be competitive there. There were so many players pulling out for
whatever reasons and so many not available so it is becoming very tough, but as
we said before this is s great opportunity for some of these players to say we
are the future. We have to soldier on,” said Igesund.
Meanwhile
goalkeeper Wayne Sandilands will captain Bafana Bafana captain during the Cosafa Cup tournament in the absence of regular captain, fellow goal minder
Itumeleng Khune.
The
squad assembles on Wednesday, 10 July 2013, and travels to Zambia on the same
day.
