Injury worries for Amakhosi ahead of the Soweto Derby

Written By Unknown on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 | Tuesday, September 06, 2011

This past week was horrible, the weekend was even worse. SABC promised to televise the Bafana vs Niger game live and they didn’t, they then kept us waiting as they tried to give updates of the game they had no clue about, in the process promising they would have live pictures of the game they knew they were never going to broadcast. Disappointing but I can’t say I didn’t anticipate it.

More disappointing are the injuries our players sustained in Niger.  According to media reports, both Siphiwe ‘Tshabalala and Lehlohonolo ‘Major’ Majoro suffered injuries on Sunday. These are not good news considering the tight schedule we have ahead of us.

Although it’s early in the season, the next three games will define who we were and what our ambitions are like for the season. As you know we face Pirates this coming Saturday for the MTN8 final, then we have Ajax Cape Town four days later and then Pirates again on the 17th of September. So if we ever needed our squad to be at its best, it is now.

On Shabba’s injury
Kickoff.com reported this morning that Siphiwe had picked up an injury on Sunday and is a doubtful starter for the game on Saturday. The coach had this to say:

“I am waiting to see the condition of the players who were away on international duty. I heard that Siphiwe is injured and that he will be doubtful for the cup final. We will have a clearer picture on Tuesday as to the extent or seriousness of his injury.”

I’m hoping this injury is not as bad as it sounds because Shabba is a very influential part of our squad and losing him will do us no good. Anyway the nature of the injury has not been disclosed by the club, we hope to hear more later on, but let us hope for the best news.

On Majoro’s injury
Majoro’s injury is not that much of a scare to be honest. He arrived back in the country from Niger with stitches on his face, I can’t see how that will hinder him from playing on Saturday. It’s also been reported that he’ll be further assessed today by the club’s doctors and we should know better later on. But I’ve seen players play with broken noses (Tshepo Bulu ring a bell?) But bare in mind that if he’s in severe pain, then he probably won’t start on Saturday. We also await good news on this later today.

On a lighter note, Yeye is back at training and is very likely to be involved on Saturday. He’s been missed and it’s been very long. There’s no better time to make a return than now for him.

“I am training hard to reach the same standard of fitness as the rest of the guys,” says Letsholonyane.

This doesn’t mean that he will just walk into the starting line up because of how well Lucky Baloyi has faired in the past few games. To this, Yeye had this to say:

“It’s going to be up to the coach to select me on Saturday. I know it is not going to be easy to walk into the starting line-up as the youngster Lucky Baloyi has been doing well in that position.”

Right, lastly I would like to welcome you all back, it’s been a long week of Interllul, local football is back this week, so expect to see more on the blog this week. Shappa Khosi Shappa!
