Are we ready for 2010?

Written By Unknown on Tuesday, September 2, 2008 | Tuesday, September 02, 2008

Let me first start by sending my condolences to the Maepa Family, May the soul of Doctor Mokone Phil Maepa rest in peace. You are a sad loss to our soccer fraternity.

Well this is why I am writing this article today,”72% of South Africans agree that South Africa will be ready by 2010 to host the Soccer World Cup, according to a poll survey by African Response”. Why not 100%? Who are the 28% and what are their fears?

Well let’s do some introspection. South Africa staged a very successful Rugby World Cup in 1995 and the Cricket World Cup in 2003 without any major incident. South Africa also played host to the UN’s World Summit on Sustainable Development in 2002 without problems. So we can stage major events successfully, we have done in the past, and we might in the near future.
