Fact is we’ve long pointed out that no
miracle is going to take place at this moment in time, with this current squad and
caretaker coach Eric Tinkler. It’s become evident and worse with every game we
play, just poor performances all round.
For one, the team has no identity-personality
and that's the coach’s responsibility which has been lacking in Roger de Sa, less
said about Tinkler, the better I think. A coach with a strong character is
needed at a big team like Orlando Pirates, which will spill into the squad on
the field as seen with Kostadin Papic and Ruud Krol.
In that regard, Vladimir Vermezovic is the
perfect coach I think. We need a brave coach that will stamp his authority and
demand respect from the players in his approach to the game, hopefully, not compromising
our traditional style of play-We just need to be more decisive in our approach
to our game going forward.
We don't have bad striker but I’ve always
believed that they lack confidence, normally goals build confidence but the
coach can also play his part in giving them belief to be great strikers. Take Kaizer
Chiefs striker Bernard Parker for one, his first season at Chiefs was a flop
but was given the confidence and belief that he can give much more and do
better, which has been evident the season after. NO PLAYER CAN BUILD A TEAM BUT A TEAM CAN BUILD A PLAYER.
Personally, I'm looking forward to next season;
our season was long over when we lost the CAF Champions League Final. Psychologically-we
were not going to recover from such failure. So long, let's build our squad, character,
mindset and that starts with Vermezovic.
