PSL CEO heaps praise on Pirates following Semi-final triumph

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) CEO, Brand de Villiers has heaped praise on Orlando Pirates for reaching the CAF Champions League final this weekend.

Orlando Pirates labored to a 1-1 draw against Tunisian side, Esperance in the CAF Champions League second leg encounter in Tunis on Saturday to earn a place in the final of the CAF Champions League.
A fortnight ago, Orlando Pirates held Esperance to a goalless draw at the Orlando Stadium.

“This is a proud moment for the Premier Soccer League when one of its members achieves such a milestone. We would like to congratulate Orlando Pirates management, technical staff and players for reaching the finals of the Champions League and I would also like to invite the football family in the country to join me as we wish them the best of luck when they play in the CAF Champions League final,” De Villiers said.

Orlando Pirates is the only South African side to have won the CAF Champions League trophy – back in 1995.

They will get an opportunity to add a second star in the two-legged Champions League final.

The PSL CEO added: “Considering what has happened in the past where our teams have dropped out in the early stages of the CAF Champions League, as a country we must draw lessons from Pirates' campaign and build a strong case for our teams to dominate at inter-continental club competitions.”
