The
Premier Soccer League would like to re-iterate that the Nedbank Cup Final
between SuperSport United and Mamelodi Sundowns on 26 May 2012 will be played
at the Orlando Stadium.
The
League has been following social network sites as well as certain media reports
wherein it has been suggested that the final should be moved to Tshwane.
We
would like to clarify the factors that were considered in choosing the Orlando
Stadium which are as follows:
•
The venue needed to be decided upon before the semi-finals in order to give us
the necessary time required for planning a match of this nature.
•
The venue for the final needed to be "neutral" for any permutation of
the four teams in the semi final
•
The venue needs to accommodate a dual broadcast with up to 28 camera positions
as well as provide TV studio facilities on location
•
The venue has to have media facilities to accommodate 100 journalists as well
as a press conference facility
•
The venue must have adequate parking facilities
•
The venue must have adequate hospitality facilities to accommodate key guests
and stakeholders
•
The venue must have equal size dressing rooms so as to ensure fairness to both
teams
•
The capacity of the Stadium
•
Security and Traffic considerations
•
The quality of the pitch and the general presentation of the stadium
These
were just some of the factors the League had to consider when selecting a venue
to host the Nedbank Cup Final.
The
League had advised all four semi final clubs of the proposed choice and asked
if they had any objections. One club did object, however this objection was
withdrawn before the commencement of the semi final this weekend.
The
League’s focus now is to ensure that fans attend the final in their numbers and
come out in support of the 2011/2012 season finale as the curtain comes down on
a wonderful season.
On
the day of the final, fans can expect a great line-up of entertainment at the
stadium and should come early to enjoy the festivities.
Tickets
for the final will go on sale later this week.
