We know fokol about football

THE GAME BETWEEN CHELSEA AND ARSENAL (3-5) at Stamford Bridge recently, reminded me of a 4-all match between Mamelodi Sundowns and Ajax Cape Town at 'Super' last season.

In that Premier Soccer League match, commentators, fans, followers, wallpapers, experts and even expects claimed that the match was great, some went as far as labelling it the best Premier Soccer League of the season, but, even today, I’m still completely adamant that, the match was one of the weakest ever seen in local football.

All 8 goals were down to defensive frailties... I therefore fail to see why so many South Africans are blinded by the number of goals in measuring the quality of the match.

The day we accept that we know fokol (nothing) about football the sooner we will be able to accept the sorry state of our game.

Now, fast forward to Stamford Bridge, 8 goals, but the defending was appalling, even Juan Mata's great strike was off an Andre Santos era... but, the difference this time, is that the British commentators and media were not fooled, as they acknowledged the poor defending from both sides, instead of praising mediocrity like the Thabiso Temas and Xilla Tutus of this world.
